NIAGARA FALLS - Richard W. Schul, a retired machinist, died unexpectedly Wednesday (March 17, 2004) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness. He was 77.
He was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools.
Mr. Schul served in the Navy during World War II.
An active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its choir, he enjoyed singing, golf, bowling, raising canaries and gardening.
Mr. Schul was a member of the Retired Men's Chorus, golf and bowling leagues and the International Canary Society.
He retired from Union Carbide Corp. as a machinist in the late 1980s.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Doris Barrett of Niagara Falls; three sons, Donald of West Seneca, Robert of Lewiston and James of Northfield, N.J.; two brothers, Howard and Leonard, and a sister, Eileen Hartwig, all of Niagara Falls; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1920 18th St.
