LEWISTON — Arthur A. Schroeder, 76, of Lewiston, NY, died April 3, 2011, at his residence, under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Born in Colden, NY on May 3, 1934 to Roland and Evelyn (Anderson) Schroeder, he was a graduate from Trott Vocational School, Niagara Falls, in 1952.
Art enlisted in the US Army in September 1955 and was Honorably Discharged in March 1957. On June 28, 1958, Art was married to Joan (Grambo) Schroeder and moved to Lewiston in 1969. He worked as a Tool & Dye maker for the Tulip Corp., Niagara Falls, for 30 years and also worked for the Felton Machine, Town of Wheatfield, for 10 years. Art was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, Lewiston, the Lower Niagara Moose Lodge #584, Lewiston, and enjoyed reading, music, bowling and golfing, where he recently scored a hole-in-one at the Newfane Par 3.
In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by two daughters, Carole Schroeder (Gary Ferenc) of Lewiston, Nancy (Edward) Gadarowski of Cambridge, NY; two grandchildren, Mary Beth and Emily Gadarowski; four sisters, Marie (late Richard) Marshall of Ransomville, Betty (late Milton) Holland of Hilton, NY, Caroline (late Ward) Knight, Jane Schroeder, both of Niagara Falls; eight brothers, Roald (Dorothy) of Sun City, CA, Robert (Briget) of Lewiston, Timothy (Maria) of the Philippines, James (Joyce) of Charlottesville, VA, David (Jackie), George (Linda), Thomas (Jean) and Peter (Pat) Schroeder, all of Niagara Falls; also several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Fred) Gutekunst of Myrtle Beach, SC, and his two pet granddogs, Bailey and Tessie.
Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Thursday (April 7), at 11:00 AM, from the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, with Rev. Thomas Mason and Rev. Milan Slahor officiating. Burial in Dickersonville Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240, or the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, or a charity of one’s choice.
