- Nellie Shaheen Elias, 97, passed from her earthly life to a heavenly one on February 2, 2015 after living with dementia for the last 7 years. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 24, 1917, the daughter of the late Abraham and Shafika (Fadel )Shaheen.
Nellie was happiest when she was cooking or baking or in the presence of children many of whom she was care-giver for. She was loved by all for her infectious laughter, her multi-course lebanese meals, her chocolate cake and her cream puffs.
She was the wife of the late Soad Elais, who died in May of 1961. Nellie is survived by her children George (Mona) Elias, Robert (Kathleen) Elias, Madaline (Richard) Staniszewski and Mark (Beth) Elias as well as eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews, godchildren and close friends. Nellie was the sister of the late Jeanie Batrouny, Juliette Wainwright, Helen Anthony, Sylvia Haick, Ethel Anthony and William Shaheen.
Nellie donated her body to the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2015 at 12:00 PM Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nellie's name may be made to the Alzheimers Association, WNY Chapter 2805 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville, NY or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY.
