Celene Ann (DeFilipps) Scolase, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 after a brief illness. She was 86. She was born in Niagara Falls on September 1, 1933, a daughter of the late Francis S. and Caroline (DeFabio) DeFilipps. She attended local schools and then graduated from Buffalo State College with a bachelor’s degree in education. Celene worked as a teacher in the Niagara Falls Board of Education at 79th Street School for over 30 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Scolase was a longtime member of St. John de LaSalle Church, was a member of the Niagara Falls Teachers Union, was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved bowling, and spending time at her summer cottage on Lake Ontario, but her greatest joy was her time with her family.
She is survived by her two daughters: Melody (Dennis) Simpson of Niagara Falls and Melinda Scolase Grossman of Lewiston, three grandchildren: Julia Simpson, Celena (Haitham BinAbri) Grossman and Sasha Giannone and one great-grandson Jasper BinAbri. She was predeceased by her loving husband Michael Scolase (1996) and her brother Frank DeFilipps.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston.
