- Miron B. Wasik, of the Town of Cambria, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY, on December 21, 1918, the son of the late George and Karolina [Sidor] Wasik.
Mr. Wasik attended Mapleton #2 school in Wheatfield. He served in the US Army as a Master Sergeant with the 1st Armored Division in Europe during World War II. Mr. Wasik helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp, where he was an interpreter of both Polish and Russian. After returning from the war, he begain farming and started his construction equipment sales company. He was one of the largest land owners in Niagara County and had properties in Alabama and Florida. Mr. Wasik donated the land on Sunset Drive in Lockport, which became the start of Niagara Hospice. He was the husband of the late Nova Violet [Hogan] Wasik, who died in October of 2008.
He is survived by five sons Bill (Gerry) Wasik, Dick (Judy) Wasik, John (Laurel) Wasik, George (Jamie) Wasik and Jim Wasik , two daughters Carolyn (Gert) Wasik-Petersen and Vivian (John) Wasik-Boyd, one brother Frank (Barbara) Wasik, 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand daughter, also many nieces and nephews.Mr. Wasik was the father of the late Patricia and Elaine Wasik, brother of the late Mitchell (late Helen) Wasik, Edward Wasik and Jane Burkhardt.
His family will be present on Saturday from 4-6 PM and on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, (SHAWNEE) 3921 Mapleton Road, North Tonawanda, NY, with the Rev. Ronald Lord officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul's UCC or to Niagara Hospice, St. Jude Children's Reserch Hospital.
Interment with Military Honors in Wheatfield Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield, NY.
