- Nicolina (Nickie) Helen Beecher, 95 of Lockport, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 21, 2017, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on December 10, 1921, she was the daughter of Anthony and Delia (Corriere) Bucolo.
Nicolina married Melvin Beecher in St. Joseph's Church on June 22, 1946. He predeceased her on May 29, 2004. Nicolina was a pioneer for working women, employed by Harrison Radiator (against her father's wishes) during World War II, and remained so for over 30 years. She was a true member of the Greatest Generation and our personal "Rosie the Riveter" keeping the USA afloat while the men went overseas. She raised her children and her granddaughters with unconditional love and generosity. After retiring, Melvin and Nicolina lived many happy years of residence in Dade City, FL, hosting her family as much as possible, and returned to Lockport NY in 2003.
Nicolina loved to laugh and her giggle lit up the room. She enjoyed her family, golfing, shopping, gardening, cooking and baking for her family, and was famously known for her spaghetti sauce and meatballs unmatched by any restaurant, anywhere, to date. Nickie taught us all to bring flowers to each other in actions and in words, to live, laugh and love, while we are still alive on this earth. All who knew her are undisputedly blessed from having had her in our lives.
Nicolina is the beloved mother of Richard (Shirley) Beecher; and she suffered the loss of her daughter, Sharon Lee Gibson in 2003. Cherished grandmother of Christina (Keith) Ostwald, Sharolyn (Dave) Verkest, Robin (Todd) Botting, Bill (Rachel) Wagner and Don (Nicole) Beecher. Adoring great-grandmother Michael Fura, Joshua Tice, Nickolas (Angel) Stranges, Nicolina (Michael Rilko) Ostwald, Heather Cooper, Cody and Alex Wagner, Jacob and Emma Beecher. Proud great-great-grandmother of Bryson Keith Ostwald and Weston Pierce Stranges. Treasured sister of Rose Torriere and six siblings predeceased her.
Friends may call to celebrate Nicolina's life from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, October 24th at the Taylor and Reynolds Funeral Home
, 70 Niagara St., where prayers will be held at 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Oratory at 12:00 PM. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery followed by a reception.
