- Obituary for Genevieve DePaolo
Genevieve ‘Genny’ DePaolo of North Tonawanda passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023. Genny was born February 6, 1931 in Johnstown, PA to the late Helen and Roy Hawks and the sister of the late Anson Thomas Hawks.
Genevieve worked as an airline stewardess for Capital Airlines in the 1950’s until she met Robert ‘Bobby’ DePaolo (deceased) of North Tonawanda, NY, a returning Marine from the Korean Conflict. After marriage, Genevieve spent many years volunteering for the Catholic Church, NT School system, Niagara County Election services and the former Melody Fair. As her children grew, Genevieve decided to attend NCCC where she achieved high honors and graduated with two Associate degrees.
After the death of her husband in 1978 , Genny returned to the work force in temp positions for many companies until she found her place at the North Tonawanda Housing Authority. In this position, Genevieve was very passionate and found that working to assist others who were struggling gave her a sense of purpose. Genny managed to work full-time, as well as being a religious education teacher for both children and adults at St. Christopher and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
It was with great sorrow that Genevieve was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Denice DePaolo-Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn DePaolo, her sons, Robert and Scott (Jacqueline), and daughter-in-law Beth DePaolo. Genny was sadly predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, who passed away in May of this year. She was a loving and passionate grandmother to Erin Smith, Ryan, Mitchell and Elena DePaolo, Nicholas DePaolo, Michael and Blake Fitzgerald. She was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Genevieve will be remembered by most for her spirited debates, supporting and encouraging others, her strong willed personality and radiant smile.
All are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, November 25, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Christopher's R.C. Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd, Tonawanda NY 14150. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice in Genny's memory.
